Notable Sales

Korhonen Vaihto has recently brokered the sale of ‘The Hidden Link of Lemmenjoki’ painted by Maëlle Paikkala in 1949 shortly before her death.

Yet to be unveiled by the buyer, the Paikkala original is emblematic of the charm and playfulness found in Paikkala’s portfolio. Concealed within the image are hidden details that open the viewers’ eyes to the Finnish ‘Sisu’, the spirit and culture of Finnish history. The viewer may even find a door into a greater understanding of the piece.

Earlier this year a private organisation discovered the original Paikkala in amongst a collection of paintings found in Tallinn, Estonia, that were stolen during the Second World War. The discovery is even more surprising as the artwork was thought to have been lost in the same gallery fire that sadly took Paikkala’s life at the age of 27.

The rare piece was purchased by a private Finnish collector based in Helsinki who plans to unveil the painting at a public ceremony very soon.
